Consent Conversation:

What Men Learn About Consent

18th December 6pm-7.30pm (UK) online

Live webinar plus Q&A - Replay available

Hosted by Jenn Wilson

with guest experts Dr Emily Harle and Sian Johnson

Jenn Wilson

As the Founder of the International Day of Consent I've spent years exploring how we practice consent BEYOND the bedroom - how our choices and agreements can build connection and community.

What did you learn in school about 'consent'?

Most sex education teaches affirmative consent - where an active, enthusiastic YES means yes...

And mostly, it's talked about from a heterosexual and gendered perspective - with the assumption that a man is responsible for getting consent from a woman...

But what does consent look like in the real world..?

What do we teach boys about consent... and how do men put that learning into practice?

This unique conversation brings together specialist academic research, sexual therapeutic practice and consent theory to explore What Men Learn About Consent and what we might learn to improve communication, connection and consent in other parts of our lives and communities.

Join Jenn Wilson with guests

Dr Emily Harle - academic researcher in sexualities and the social sciences

Sian Johnson - psychotherapist, Tantra practitioner and men’s sex coach

Emily's PHD research explores how young men who have sex with women, aged 18-25, understand, navigate and communicate consent.

Dr Emily Harle is a researcher in sexualities and the social sciences, working with young men about their experiences with sex, relationships and fatherhood.

She has recently completed her PhD at the University of Birmingham, exploring young men’s experiences of consent communication.

She also works with the Centre for Innovation in Fatherhood and Family Research at the University of Lincoln, engaging with communities to conduct creative qualitative research about young fatherhood.

She is a current member of three interdisciplinary working groups: Sex, Sexualities and Sexual Harm (SSSH!) Research Group, UK Young Parent Network and Lincolnshire Boys’ Impact Hub.

Sian's programmes support men in unlearning the myths of masculinity, reconnecting to aliveness, emotion, and authentic connection.

With “Pleasure as a Catalyst for Change” as her guiding compass, Sian Johnson is a psychotherapist, Tantra practitioner and trainer in The Wheel of Consent for anybody with a body.

Best known as a men’s sex coach, she helps men move from “something’s not working” to confidence, presence, and intimacy that feels fulfilling and consensual for them and everyone around them.

In her essay From the Bedroom to the World, Sian explores the big secret: sexual and relationships confidence is less about performance hacks and more about emotional intelligence, self-consent, and integrity in how men meet themselves and the world.
